Our Workforce
Our goal is to make sure diversity is woven into the fabric of our company - into all of our processes and day-to-day business practices - creating a mindset in every employee that will allow us to think consciously about diversity and inclusion in everything that we do.
Today we are already a diverse community of dedicated and highly talented professionals. We draw upon the unique backgrounds and experiences of our employees to develop better solutions, faster results and a remarkable vision for the future.
Grassroots Networking
An important part of the inclusive environment within Owens Corning in North America is a grassroots network of Diversity Councils and Resource Groups whose members are actively involved in creating and sustaining an inclusive work environment throughout the company. This infrastructure is driven by employee involvement and focuses on raising the level of diversity awareness through communication and education. Engaging in these groups is one of the many ways employees get involved and impact diversity.
The company currently includes more than 40 Diversity Councils in North America that support diversity initiatives at Owens Corning facilities or within business units and staff functions. While the agendas and activities of each council vary by location, their overriding goals are the same: to create an inclusive workplace that recognizes, respects and values individual differences, and enables each person to maximize his or her potential and that of Owens Corning.
There are also several Resource or Affinity Groups operating out of the company's World Headquarters. Self-founded and directed by their members, the Resource Groups provide education, activities and support for diversity interests specific to their members. Each Resource Group has a designated senior leader who serves as a liaison between the group and the CEO's leadership team. Among these groups are:
- Women's Information Network
- Owens Corning Multicultural Network
- African American Resources Group
- Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered and Allies Group
- Owens Corning Hispanic Diversity Council
While we are proud to have these Resource Groups actively supporting their constituents, we also recognize that this modest list is only a beginning. Some employees have proposed adding more such groups and they have been encouraged to do so by the company's leadership. With the expressed interest of potential members and the supportive environment at Owens Corning, we expect to see the list of resource groups growing in the future.
