Resin Transfer Molding RTM is used to mold components with complex shapes, large surface areas and a smooth finish on both sides for applications like truck cabs and electrical cabinets.
This process consists of injecting a thermosetting resin into a closed mold cavity. Continuous filament mats, complexes or fabrics can be used in RTM as reinforcement. The resin wets through the reinforcement and solidifies to form a composite part. Molding pressure is lower than in the compression molding process, so tooling and equipment capital costs are lower than high-volume compression molding, but higher than open molding processes. © 2001-2008 Owens Corning.
