The Benefits of ICF: Energy Efficiency

The Fold-Form® system creates a permanent insulation blanket around a monolithic concrete core to dramatically reduce heat transfer, and eliminate bridges and cold spots.

In framed construction, heating and cooling energy is lost to drafts and air infiltration, but a building with Fold-Form walls can have up to 67% percent less air infiltration than a typical wood-framed building. **

Finished walls can attain an insulating value of R-20, according to FTC required residential insulation construction tests.* For commercial construction or special applications, please refer to the alternate testing and performance stated in the general specifications.

As a result, buildings constructed with Fold-Form are more efficient to heat and cool. That means smaller heating and cooling equipment, and bigger utility savings for the life of the structure.

Back to Benefits Overview

* Owens Corning tests and reports all insulating products at a mean temperature of 75 degrees to determine R-value. The FTC requires that any insulating products installed in homes follow this process. Fold-Form Insulated Concrete Form walls attain R-20 by calculation, with concrete and exterior finishes.

**As with all high-efficiency structures, Fold-Form buildings should be equipped with an air exchange system to control inside humidity and insure a controlled supply of fresh air within the structure.
