Owens Corning to Quiet Down America
Owens Corning's Quiet Down America Tour Launches with HGTV's Candice Olson of "Divine Design" to Educate Consumers about Residential Noise Control Solutions
Toledo, Ohio, August 8, 2006 – This month, well-known PINK insulation manufacturer, Owens Corning (OWENQ.OB) is launching a category awareness tour across the country to educate consumers about ways to
control unwanted noise in the home. To help promote its QuietZone® residential noise control building product
solutions, Owens Corning's Quiet Down America Tour will visit leading home shows throughout the country to
highlight ways Americans can incorporate the element of "shhhhh!" in their home design.
The Quiet Down America Tour launches on August 9 in New York City and will demonstrate the state-of-the-art QuietZone product solutions, which when used together, can reduce airborne and structural noises by up to 85
percent*. Tour stop attendees will hear a live noise comparison of common household appliances through an
untreated wall in the mobile QuietZone product solutions house and again through a wall treated with Owens
Corning's highest level noise control solution, QuietZone® Quiet Retreats™.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how sound is transmitted from room to room as well as how
QuietZone products can be used to manage volume within each room of the home. Third-party experts
specializing in the fields of acoustics and architectural engineering will also be on hand at select stops to
answer visitor questions about home design and sound transmission.
"Modern appliances and amenities coupled with today's high ceilings and hardwood floors help create beautiful indoor environments, but ones that are noisy and highly disruptive," said Candice Olson, host of HGTV
Network's "Divine Design."
"As a result, common household activities can have a jarring impact on a family's quality of life. Before the walls are painted or the accent rug is placed, new homeowners need to consider the elements behind and
below these items that will allow them to fully enjoy the finished product."
Utilized during the building phase of the home, QuietZone products work to help absorb, block, break and
isolate sound waves that travel from room to room. Installed between walls and floors, the products reduce the
amount of noise heard outside of the treated room. The line includes products ranging from acoustic insulation
batts, sealant, wall studs, ceiling products and floor mats to duct board and flexible duct media products for the
heating, ventilation and air conditioning system - which can improve the acoustics of the home and contribute
to increased energy efficiency.
"Residential noise control has been overlooked for years while home design and lifestyles have made it more
important than ever to raise awareness among new construction home buyers about the solutions available to
better manage sound," said Portia Ash, business manager for Owens Corning Residential Noise Control.
"Addressing the need for residential noise control is a critical factor in new home construction and this tour is a
way to let new homeowners experience the most complete noise control solution available on the market."
