Made in Portland, Oregon

Made in Oregon logoOwens Corning Roofing began production of fiberglass reinforced shingles in 1977. For almost 40 years, Owens Corning has been producing high quality 3-tab and architectural shingles for shipment throughout the Pacific Northwest, Canada and even into Asia. Owens Corning® Oakridge® and Duration® Series shingles with SureNail® Technology* are popular choices of professional roofing contractors and are two of the highest selling shingles shipping out of the Portland Plant.

Portland, ORLocated in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest between the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains, Portland is the largest city in the State of Oregon. Portland is affectionately known by many names including, the “Rose City” for the many rose gardens; “Bridgetown” for the historical bridges that span the Willamette River; and the “Greenest City in America” for the intense local focus on the environment and sustainability.

Portland SustainabilityThe Portland Roofing manufacturing facility takes a huge stand on sustainability at the plant. In 2014 they repurposed a large oil water separator on the property into a cistern which diverts storm water from discharging into the Willamette River. Instead it is used for irrigation. As of January 2015, 1.17MM gallon of storm water has been used to keep grass green. This is a win for the aquatic habitat in the Willamette River and for the plant.

Paul CourtoisThe Owens Corning Portland Roofing manufacturing facility located in the Northwest Industrial area is led by Paul Courtois, a 13-year veteran of Owens Corning. Paul’s team sets high expectations, with everyone focused on Safety and producing the highest quality product and customer service. The plant employs 80 people and produces enough shingles each day to roof over 250 houses.

Portland Shingle RecyclingIn addition to reducing total waste by 35% over the last 5 years, the Portland Roofing plant recycled 93% of their shingle manufacturing waste in 2014 instead of sending it to a landfill. This is up from 67% in 2010. Recycled shingles are ground and used in paving applications - a great reuse of the material.

Owens Corning operates 2 other manufacturing facilities in the Portland area. Located 7 miles north of the roofing plant is an Owens Corning® Trumbull® Asphalt manufacturing facility. Asphalt is a key critical ingredient in the production of fiberglass-based shingles. Owens Corning® Trumbull® Asphalt is the leading supplier of weathering-grade asphalt to the roofing industry. The plant employs almost 20 people. Portland Trumbull Asphalt was recently recognized by Oregon Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA), Division of Consumer and Business Services as taking an active voluntary approach to exceed OSHA’s Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs) requirements.

Foamular 250 2inch R10In the neighboring town of Gresham, OR, Owens Corning makes FOAMULAR® extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation for the western United States and Canada. Foam insulation products provide commercial building insulating solutions for under slabs, crawlspaces, and exterior walls. In addition, our foam insulation products are used in low slope roof applications, Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (known as SAFER) soft wall barrier systems, walk-in coolers and wind turbines, just to list a few. FOAMULAR® products give long-term stable thermal performance of R-5 per inch, thermal and moisture resistance and long-term energy efficiency. Michael Bowling is the Plant Leader and the plant employees almost 50 people.
