Melting Technology
Owens Corning has been melting glass and making fibers for more than 65 years. And, we never stop trying to do it better – for the environment and our bottom line.
We have a suite of production technologies for making glass fiber reinforcements. It’s called our Smart Melting Package.
One recent addition to that package is a new gas and oxygen firing technology. It uses less energy and generates far fewer emissions – reducing NOx by 75% and CO2 by 40%.
All Owens Corning fiberglass reinforcement furnaces in Brazil, Canada, Europe and Mexico, and one furnace in Jackson, Tenn., have been converted to the new technology. In 2007, our Amarillo, Texas, plant is scheduled for conversion. When that is complete, 70% of our production of glass fiber reinforcements will use the new technology.
