Tested for Proven Insulating Power

When you buy Owens Corning® Fiberglas™ or mineral wool insulation, you can be confident that what you see on the label is what you get in the package.

Under the NAIMA R-Value Certification Program, Owens Corning participates in voluntary testing to verify the insulating power (R-value) of its fiberglass insulation and mineral wool insulation batts and rolls.

It's a simple but important step in making sure you get the high quality, proven performance and great value you expect from our insulating solutions.

What is R-Value?

R-value is the capacity of an insulating material to resist heat flow. The "R" in R-value stands for resistance. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. It's worth noting that thicker doesn't always mean more insulation power. Materials with the same R-value deliver the same insulating power, regardless of thickness, weight, or appearance.

Why is Certification Important?

As energy code standards continue to increase, building professionals and homeowners need to know the products they buy will perform as expected. Builders, insulation contractors, and DIYers depend on quality products and installation to achieve their goals for home comfort and energy performance.

Owens Corning employs advanced materials engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance processes to deliver consistent, high quality performance in every package. Participation in this voluntary certification program is an extra step we take in order to provide our customers with the added assurance that comes with independent testing.

How R-Value Certification Works

R-value certification is awarded by the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) based on regular testing and validation by an accredited independent lab.

Products carrying the certification label have been tested and meet the labeled R-value as required by the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) "Labeling and Advertising of Home Insulation" (16 C.F.R. Part 460).

The NAIMA R-Value Certification Program is a voluntary thermal testing program for fiberglass and mineral wool insulation sold in batts and rolls.

Frequently Asked Questions

NAIMA (North American Insulation Manufacturers Association) is the association for North American manufacturers of fiberglass, rock wool, and slag wool products. Its role is to promote energy efficiency and environmental preservation through the use of fiberglass, rock wool, and slag wool insulation, and to encourage the safe production and use of these materials.

Owens Corning displays the NAIMA mark on bulk packaging and not each individual batt and roll. You can find a list of qualifying products here.

Because loosefill insulation is not installed as packaged, it is not possible to be tested and certified in the same way as batts and rolls. Owens Corning developed its patented Inspect-R® Density Gauge to provide building professionals with the assurance they need when using our PROPINK Complete® Blown-In Wall system.
